Care Guide
Light: Place in bright, indirect light for 8+ hours daily, 1–2 m from a sunny window. Use grow lights if natural light is insufficient, especially in winter.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix—an aroid blend or a mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.
Water: Proper watering is another key factor in caring for Philodendron ‘Jose Buono’. This plant prefers to be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out before watering again. When you water, thoroughly saturate the soil and let excess water drain freely from the pot.
Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water, as this can cause root rot. To prevent this, ensure your pot has drainage holes and always empty any excess water collected in the saucer after watering.
Temperature & Humidity: Philodendron ‘Jose Buono’ is native to tropical regions, where humidity levels are typically high. Because of this, the plant prefers a humid environment and can be sensitive to dry air. To maintain proper humidity, you can use a humidifier, place a tray of water near the plant, or group it with other plants to create a microclimate.
Occasional misting of the leaves can help, but be careful to avoid over-wetting them, as excess moisture on the foliage may cause damage.
Fertilizer: Fertilize every 4 weeks in spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer (half strength).Pause feeding in fall and winter.
Repotting – Repot young plants yearly, older ones every 2–3 years, using a slightly larger pot. Use well-draining soil, adding a layer of expanded clay at the bottom. Transfer the plant, fill gaps with fresh mix, and water well.
Pruning: Philodendron ‘Jose Buono’ is relatively low-maintenance but may need occasional pruning to maintain its shape and prevent legginess. If the plant becomes too tall or the leaves start to yellow, trim the stem just above a leaf node. This encourages new growth and helps keep the plant bushy and healthy.
Safety: Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach.
