Collection: Our Plant & Acclimation Process

At Plantalure, every imported tropical plant goes through a careful, hands-on acclimation process before it ever reaches a customer. Here's what that looks like — and why it matters.

They Arrive Bare Root

Most of our rare tropicals are imported bare root — meaning they arrive without soil, stripped down to survive international transit. Some arrive with only a few leaves remaining. This is completely normal, but it means they need immediate and attentive care the moment they land.

Recovery Comes First

Stressed plants cannot handle bright light right away. Acclimating newly shipped plants to gentler, low-to-medium intensity light prevents further shock and leaf burn, allowing them to recover safely. Instead of harsh sun, we place every new arrival in our indoor greenhouse under carefully controlled grow lights.

Why Grow Lights Instead of Sun

Our grow lights are dialed to the right spectrum and intensity for recovery — no harsh peaks, no cold nights, no weather variability. This controlled environment allows the plant to focus its energy on re-establishing roots and stabilizing before anything else.

Respiration: The Importance of a Dark Period

We do not run our grow lights 24/7. Plants require a dedicated dark period to respire — converting the energy captured during photosynthesis into usable growth. Without this rest period, plants cannot properly process what they've absorbed, which stunts recovery and long-term health.

Plantalure keeps lights on a consistent schedule of 12 to 14 hours per day — mimicking natural tropical day length and giving plants the balance of light and rest they need to thrive.

Gradual Reintroduction

Once a plant shows signs of recovery — new root growth, stable leaves, emerging shoots — we gradually increase light levels and begin transitioning it toward its permanent care conditions. Only then is it considered ready for sale.

What This Means for You

When you purchase an acclimated plant from Plantalure, you're receiving a plant that has already survived the hardest part of its journey. It has been stabilized, monitored, and cared for — not rushed to market. That's the Plantalure difference.
