Anthurium King of Spades is one of the most iconic and sought-after collector Anthuriums in the aroid world. This exceptional hybrid is celebrated for its dark velvety foliage, striking silver veining, and distinctive spade-shaped leaves. As the plant matures, its foliage develops an increasingly dramatic appearance, often displaying deep green to near-black tones that create stunning contrast against its prominent veins.

Highly prized among collectors, King of Spades combines luxurious velvet texture, impressive leaf form, and commanding presence in a single plant. Its bold foliage and rarity have made it a cornerstone specimen in many premium Anthurium collections.

🌟 What Makes It Special:

✔ Dark Velvety Foliage – Produces rich, deep green to nearly black leaves with a luxurious velvet texture.

✔ Distinctive Spade-Shaped Leaves – Broad, rounded foliage creates the signature silhouette that inspired its name.

✔ Prominent Silver Veining – Contrasting veins stand out beautifully against the dark foliage.

✔ Legendary Collector Anthurium – One of the most recognized and desirable velvet Anthurium hybrids among collectors.

✔ Imported & Acclimated – Professionally acclimated and established for a healthy transition into your growing environment.

🌿 Growth Habit:

Anthurium King of Spades grows in an upright clumping habit with sturdy petioles supporting large velvety leaves. It thrives in bright, indirect light, warm temperatures, and moderate to high humidity. A chunky, well-draining aroid mix promotes healthy root development and vigorous growth. With maturity, leaves become larger, darker, and more dramatic, making this plant an exceptional focal point in any rare plant collection.

Plant Care Guide

Light

  • Bright indirect light is ideal.
  • Can tolerate a few hours of gentle morning sun.
  • Avoid harsh afternoon sun, which may scorch variegated leaves.
  • Insufficient light can reduce variegation and slow growth.

Watering

  • Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy.
  • Water when the top 2–5 cm (1–2 inches) of soil feels slightly dry.
  • Increase watering during active growth in spring and summer.
  • Reduce watering during cooler months.

Humidity

  • Prefers moderate to high humidity (60%+).
  • Benefits from humidifiers or greenhouse conditions.
  • Higher humidity helps prevent browning leaf edges.

Temperature

  • Ideal range: 20–30°C (68–86°F).
  • Avoid temperatures below 15°C (59°F).
  • Protect from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.

Soil

  • Rich, well-draining tropical plant mix.
  • A blend containing coco coir, bark, perlite, and compost works well.
  • Soil should retain moisture while allowing excess water to drain.

Fertilizer

  • Feed every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced fertilizer.
  • Reduce feeding during fall and winter.

We carefully monitor the destination weather for every order to ensure your plants arrive safely. When needed, complimentary heat packs and insulation are included to protect them from cold temperatures during transit.

Seasonal Care Tips

Winter— Canadian winters mean shorter daylight and dry indoor air from heating. If natural light is limited from November through February, a full-spectrum grow light on a 12-hour timer helps maintain healthy growth and prevents etiolation (stretching toward light). Water sparingly once soil begins to dry, keep away from heating vents and cold glass, and use a humidifier or pebble tray to maintain humidity. Keep plants comfortably above 15°C.
