Philodendron verrucosum 'Mini' is a striking cultivar prized for its compact size and vibrant foliage. Unlike its larger relatives, the ‘Mini’ clone features leaves that remain small—typically no larger than an adult’s hand and often just 2 inches in diameter. In its natural habitat, it can form dense carpets across the forest floor, creating a breathtaking display of velvety, heart-shaped leaves.

Care Guide
Light: Philodendron verrucosum thrives in bright, indirect light, similar to the dappled sunlight it receives in its native tropical canopy. An east-facing window is ideal, offering gentle morning light without the risk of leaf scorch. Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage its delicate foliage. Position the plant near a bright window, but out of direct rays, to replicate its natural growing conditions.
Water: These plants enjoy consistent moisture but dislike soggy conditions. Water when the top few inches of soil feel dry, ensuring that the soil is evenly moist but not waterlogged. Avoid allowing the pot to dry out completely, as this can stress the plant. Typically, watering once a week is sufficient, but always check soil moisture before watering.
Soil: As a hemiepiphyte, the Ecuador Philodendron naturally climbs trees and can eventually grow without its roots in the soil. To support this growth habit indoors, provide a well-aerated, fast-draining soil mix. A blend of potting soil with coco coir, orchid bark, or peat moss works well to promote root health and prevent water from pooling at the bottom of the pot.
Temperature & Humidity: Prefers higher humidity levels.
Fertilizer: During the active growing season (spring and summer), fertilize monthly using a balanced formula designed for plants in the Araceae family. Follow the package directions carefully and avoid over-fertilizing, as excess nutrients can harm the plant.
Repotting: Rotate your plant regularly for even light exposure, and wipe leaves to keep them dust-free for maximum photosynthesis.
Pruning & Maintenance: Trim yellowing or damaged leaves and prune to shape the plant as needed.
Safety: Toxic to pets if ingested, keep out of reach of cats and dogs.
