Care Guide

Light: Golden Violin Philodendron thrives in medium to bright indirect light to maintain its vibrant golden-yellow new growth. Ideally, place it within 3 feet of an east- or west-facing window where it can receive steady brightness throughout the day. A good rule of thumb: if the plant casts a noticeable shadow for much of the day, it’s in a good spot.

No access to natural sunlight? No problem. This philodendron also does well under grow lights or with supplemental lighting.

Note: Without adequate light, new leaves may emerge more green than gold.

Water
: Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry to the touch. Golden Violin prefers to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid overwatering—soggy soil can lead to root rot. When in doubt, wait. This plant handles dryness better than excess moisture.

Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix—an aroid blend or a mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal.

Temperature & Humidity: This philodendron prefers average to above-average humidity. In dry indoor environments, leaves may struggle to unfurl properly or appear deformed.

Tips to boost humidity:
Cluster with other houseplants
Place near a small humidifier
Grow in a terrarium or under a cloche

Fertilizer: Feed during the spring and summer months when the plant is actively growing. A balanced, general-purpose houseplant fertilizer works well, just be sure to follow the label directions.

Fertilizing once a month is sufficient, but you can fertilize as little as once or twice a year. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can damage or burn roots.

Repotting: Repot young plants yearly, older ones every 2–3 years, using a slightly larger pot. Use well-draining soil, adding a layer of expanded clay at the bottom. Transfer the plant, fill gaps with fresh mix, and water well.

Pruning: Golden Violin Philodendron is a vining/climbing plant, so you can:
Prune or pinch regularly to keep it compact and bushy
Let it climb a moss pole or trellis for a dramatic vertical display

Both approaches are perfectly fine, it just depends on your space and aesthetic preference.

Safety:  Toxic to pets and humans if ingested. Keep out of reach.
